About Me

Born in Toronto

I was born in Toronto, and my parents came from the Philippines. I live with my family, which includes my daughter, who is also a student, and my black lab, Raven.

Teaching and Learning

Even as a child, I loved helping others learn. My dad always believed I’d become a teacher—but first, I followed my passion in the arts. I earned an honours degree in Fine Arts Cultural Studies at York University and studied Photography at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson).

Community Teaching

While working as a photographer, I also taught in community programs in places like Regent Park, Riverdale, Markham, and downtown Toronto. There, I taught food justice and literacy, and horticulture. I also led photography workshops for youth facing challenges, helping them express themselves through art. I have been a guest artist/teacher at various public and Catholic schools, where I taught photography and film.

Municipal Work

At the same time, I worked with the City of Toronto in arts and culture programs, supporting creative projects while continuing my own art practice.

Teaching Philosophy

Celebrating Diversity

Having worked in various neighborhoods across Toronto, one of the world's most culturally diverse cities, I've had the privilege of teaching in a range of settings, from inner-city schools to prestigious private institutions. Regardless of my students' socioeconomic background or cultural heritage, one thing remains consistent: their insatiable curiosity.

With their eagerness to learn, students bring diverse cultural experiences that can foster an environment where differences are celebrated and valued. As their teacher, I encourage open sharing and guide them in understanding and appreciating each other's perspectives to create a community where diversity is embraced and validated.

Inclusive Education
My goal is to design and execute a curriculum that fosters a universal, inclusive, and engaging learning environment. I firmly believe in tailoring my teaching approach to accommodate the unique learning styles and needs of each student. This is why I implement experiential, hands-on, collaborative, and individualized learning approaches. By offering diverse learning experiences, I ensure that all students can access the material in a way that resonates best with them.

Spirituality

As a Roman Catholic educator, I am committed to nurturing the holistic development of my students—academically, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Grounded in the teachings of the scriptures, I will impart values and spiritual practices, while also contextualizing them to modern times. This approach aims to deepen students' understanding of how to serve God and become global citizens, promoting inclusion, respect, and love.

While my teaching is rooted in Catholic principles, I will ensure that students of diverse religious backgrounds, or no religious affiliation, feel safe, supported, and accepted in my classroom. By fostering an environment of mutual respect and understanding, I aim to engage all students in their spiritual and personal growth, regardless of their beliefs.
